Club Penguin Island was an online multiplayer game that was meant to be the next version of Club Penguin. It launched globally on March 29, 2017, and was developed by Disney Canada Inc. to keep the Club Penguin brand going after the original game was suddenly closed by Disney Interactive.

Before its worldwide launch, the game was tested in Australia and New Zealand starting December 15, 2016, and in Canada from January 13, 2017.

Unfortunately, the game was shut down on December 20, 2018. While the gameplay was similar to the original Club Penguin, it used the Unity game engine instead of Adobe Flash Player.

On September 27, 2018, Disney announced that Club Penguin Island would be shutting down soon, which was shared in a letter to Kotaku and on their official blog. The game was taken off Google Play and the App Store on November 20, 2018, and the desktop version was also removed on December 20, 2018.

The last update, version 1.13.0, was released on November 5, 2018, and it included an offline mode, allowing players to still enjoy the game as a single-player experience. Finally, at 10:00 AM PST on December 20, 2018, Club Penguin Island closed its servers for good.
