Claudia Jones, born 21 February 1915 in Belmont, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Deceased 24 December 1964 London, United Kingdom.

Jones' family emigrated to New York City when she 9, where despite academic success was limited by her status as a black woman immigrant. Later joined the Communist Party – USA, for which she was deported in 1955 under the Smith Act.
