About Clarence Clarity

Clarence Clarity is a producer, singer, and songwriter based in London. He was formerly known under various stage names, such as Entrepreneurs and as frontman of Elle Milano. He has been active under this name since 2012. His musical style ranges across alternative R&B, glitch pop, and noise, and is described by The Guardian’s Ian McQuaid as “a glitching, unsettling combination of sleaze, funk, static and collapse”.

He released his debut EP SAVE †HYSELF in 2013, and his sophomore EP Who Am Eye a year later. In 2015, he released his debut album NO NOW, which received modest press attention and favorable reviews. In 2016, he announced an upcoming second album, called Leave Earth, and in 2017, produced Rina Sawayama’s EP RINA.

In October 2018, Clarence released his second album, now under the name THINK: PEACE, alongside a single not on the album, 1985. At the same time he announced on his Twitter that Leave Earth had become a playlist consisting of singles he had made since 2016. He then released a series of singles, in pairs, over the course of 2018, finishing off the playlist by releasing Sob Story and Leave Earth on December 31st of that year.

Clarence served as the lead producer of Rina Sawayama’s debut album, SAWAYAMA, which was released in April 2020 and had production credits on all tracks, aside from “Comme des Garçons” and “Chosen Family”. In December of that year, the deluxe edition was released, featuring additional production from him on “We Out Here”, “Bees and Honey”, and her cover of The 1975’s “Love It If We Made It”.

Clarence began releasing a series of instrumental albums in 2020, with the ambient DEAD SCREEN SCROLLS in March, followed by AEROBIC EXERCISE in June and YOUR WRONG in February of 2021. A sequel to YOUR WRONG, YOUR WRONG TO, was released in May of 2022.

In a livestream, Clarence announced he planned on releasing a trilogy of two EPs and an album, at the time untitled. The trilogy’s title was revealed as VANISHING, with ACT I: NO NOUNS released on September 23rd 2021.

In 2022, Clarence continued his work as a producer, serving once again as Rina Sawayama’s executive producer on her second album Hold The Girl; he also was the producer for Sundara Karma’s EP Oblivion!, following up his production on their previous EP Kill Me. In October, Clarence released the Bandcamp exclusive UNRECORDED HISTORY – initially thought to be the second act of VANISHING, Clarence confirmed this to not be the case, instead serving as a way for him to take a break from producing ACT II.

He has stated multiple times that he was unaware of the meme when he chose the name “Clarence Clarity”, but thought it was apt in retrospect.
