Philadephia born and raised, Chynna was an adept rapper and former model. She was scouted by Ford Models at age 14 and shadowed the late A$AP Yams while A$AP Rocky’s LIVE.LOVE.A$AP was out. Under Bobby Brown’s tuition, she released self-written songs, namely “Glen Coco” in 2014, and “Selfie” in 2013. Those tracks gave way to the EP I’m not here. This isn’t happening in July 2015. She was able to deftly walk the line between culture and art, with the cover art for “Ninety” featuring an homage to Blue Öyster Cult’s seventh album and visuals for “The Conversation” as a tip of the hat to Alfred Hitchcock.
After Chynna’s tragic death on April 8, 2020, friends and fans, including Kehlani, Vince Staples, and more, flocked to social media to express their love for the young artist.
