Hatsune Miku is a software developed by Crypton Future Media for the VOCALOID engine. Popular among internet users, she is famous for her holographic live stage performances and easy accessibility, making her a worldwide platform for creativity.
Hatsune Miku’s name derives from the Japanese characters 初 (hatsu, “first”), 音 (ne, “sound”) and ミク (miku, a given name that shares its meaning with “future”), which translates into “The first Sound from the Future.”
Her anthropomorphism of the engine is designed to look like a 16-year-old girl with turquoise twintails and is vocally modeled after Saki Fujita. After the release of Vocaloid 3, Hatsune Miku can now incorporate English into her speeches and songs.
Due to her worldwide-broad platform, Hatsune Miku has branched out in many different worlds—from music, with known songs like “The World is Mine” and “Ievan Polkka,” to her collaboration with GOODSMILE RACING as their mascot, to having her own video game series, Project DIVA, published by SEGA.
Crypton Future Media’s other Vocaloids include MEIKO, KAITO, Kagamine Rin and Len, and Megurine Luka.
