Ashin Chen (Chinese name: 阿信) is a Taiwanese artist born on December 6, 1975, in Beitou District, Taipei, Taiwan. Ashin was born into a normal family of four, consisting of his parents, him, and a younger brother. His family owned a record store, which encouraged his interest in music.

Ashin attended The Affiliated Senior High School of National Taiwan Normal University and majored in visual arts; it is also where he met the other members of the band in the guitar club, where he was appointed president in – Monster, Masa and Stone. MAYDAY was founded in 1995 and was originally known as SoBand; Ashin was appointed as the vocalist since, according to his bandmates, he was the worst instrumentalist of them all, despite knowing how to play drums and guitar and his narrow vocal range. At the age of 19, he began composing and had his first song “Hao Ju Hao San” which was released on Richie Jen’s album “Fei Niao” in 2001.

In college, he attended Shih Chien University, which was around the time the band started to really take off. Since then, the band has gone on to international fame and recognition, especially in Taiwan and the Asian music scene.
