Charles Williams (1886-1945) was an English writer and theologian. He is remembered today chiefly for his membership in the Inklings, an unofficial literary group which would meet at the Eagle and Child pub in Oxford; however, he is often overshadowed by fellow-members J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis. His best-known works are his “supernatural-” or “theological thrillers”, which deal with the impingement of the spiritual realm on the lives of everyday people in 20th-century England.
