About Carmouflage Rose

The first time Carmouflage Rose hopped on a plane, he was flying from Zimbabwe to his new home in Australia. Eighteen years old, wide-eyed and full of excitement, he couldn’t help but feel that this was all a dream. “Having to make new friends in Australia, I found it hard with my personality, so I just started making music,” Rose says.

With his elementary GarageBand knowledge, Rose blended hip-hop with dancehall, electronica and a distinct melodic sheen. He soon relocated to Brisbane and his tracks began gaining heavier momentum on platforms like Soundcloud. On an alcohol-fuelled night out in Fortitude Valley, Rose had a chance meeting with producer James Angus (Tkay Maidza, Jai Waetford, Nicole Millar), and the two began working on his Roselevel mixtape. That project contained ‘Late Nights’ – Rose’s breakout moment in 2017. ‘Late Nights’ would land on triple j’s Most Played list in 2017 and was certified Gold the following year, amassing 15 million streams to date.

Rose soon became a seasoned festival favourite, gracing stages at Groovin The Moo, Spilt Milk and FOMO; while also performing with everyone from ASAP Ferg to Hayden James – a testament to his sonic versatility. 2018 saw Rose release his debut Taste EP, containing his smash hit ‘Wildflowers’ and ‘Let Me Down’ featuring George Maple, who joined Rose for a performance on triple j’s Like A Version. Feeling re-energised from a trip to Zimbabwe and influenced by the local music, Rose released new single ‘Sele’ which was crowned the Best Hip-Hop/Rap Release at the 2020 Queensland Music Awards.

After a hiatus brought on by the global pandemic, Rose returned in 2021 with his double-edged release ‘Tipsy/Powerplay’, which saw him write alongside BLESSED (The Kid Laroi) and Travy P (Manu Crooks, B Wise), while also flexing his lyrical prowess and penchant for memorable hooks.
Both tracks feature on his upcoming A Night With No Moon project – a body of work that’s difficult to pigeonhole in one genre, which is exactly how someone with as eclectic tastes as Rose would want it – he has been known to drive around his beloved Brisbane bopping everything from Aussie country legend Kasey Chambers, to dance producer ZHU, alongside dancehall luminary WizKid and Hip-Hop superstar Drake. With a string of live shows also in the pipeline, Rose is set to capture even more ears and imaginations in 2021 and beyond.
