Great American poet Carl Sandburg (1878-1967) was born in Illinois and won three Pulitzer Prizes. His more notable works include: Chicago Poems (1916), Cornhuskers (1918), and Smoke and Steel (1920). He is also known for writing Abraham Lincoln’s biography and was a major proponent for the Civil Rights Movement.
