Carl Nielsen (1865-1931) is now considered the greatest composer in Denmark’s history, though worldwide renown came to him only decades after his death. While he is known in his native land for his vocal music and interest in Danish folk songs, outside Denmark he is better known for his six symphonies and various orchestral works.
