Behind the artist name Calby, which is also a contraction of Copenhagen and Valby, stands Mik Thybo, who is a singer, songwriter and producer.

His songs and universe move in the intersection of soul, pop and indie rock and possess a timelessness that makes it difficult to define whether the music is created today or in a different decade.

The focus is on the good craftsmanship, live instruments and the strong song.

Calby works from the dogma that unless a song sounds good with only three instruments, it must be scrapped.

Calby writes his songs and music and co-produces most of the songs in collaboration with Magnus Larsson, better known as founding member of Lukas Graham.

Calby has been present on the Danish Airplaychart since he debuted in August with the single ‘The Everyday Bit’, which became P3’s Song of the Week and peaked at number 8 with massive support from P3 and P4. In November 2019 he followed up with the single ‘Burnout’, which also became a radio darling – the single has so far peaked at # 2 on the Airplaychart and received great support from national and local stations.

At the beginning of March, ‘Burnout’ went top 50 on the Danish Spotify chart, where it is currently number 26. On April 3, the third single, “The Million Dollar Song,” was released – an insanely well-written and well-produced song that will once again testify to Calby’s unique ability to create music that exudes strong emotion and captures the nerve that something real is on the line.

For the audience who is tired of everything sounding digital, and beats are something that is constructed on a computer.

Calby records all his music on old 8-track tape recorders and tube microphones, to capture the right sound and mood.

Everything in Calby’s musical universe is considered, nothing is left to chance. Still, the songs exude with excess and ease.
