About Caissie Levy

Caissie Levy is a Canadian stage actress and singer. She is currently playing Elsa in Broadway’s
Frozen.

A week after graduating from her alma mater, American Musical and Dramatic Academy, she made a name for herself booking the role of Maureen Johnson in the United States national tour of Rent.

She went on to play Penny Pingleton in the United States national tour of Hairspray after understudying the role in the Toronto production. In Toronto, Levy also covered the role of Amber Von Tussle.

Levy made her Broadway debut in the musical sensation Wicked as an ensemble replacement and an understudy to the massive role of Elphaba, originally played by Idina Menzel.

She also reprised her role as Penny Pingleton in Hairspray on Broadway, departing on September 10, 2006.

Levy went on to play the role of Elphaba full time in 2008, in the sit-down Los Angeles production of Wicked at the Pantages Theatre, after briefly serving as the standby for the role.

In 2009, she landed her first lead role on Broadway as Sheila in the 2009 Tony-award winning revival of Hair, then going on to play the role in London at the Gielgud Theatre.

Following her success in Hair, Levy went on to originate her first role, Molly, in the musical adaptation of the 1990 film, Ghost. The show premiered at the Manchester Opera House, in Manchester, England, and went on to play the Piccadilly Theatre in London’s West End. On April 23, 2012, the show opened on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. The show closed on August 18, 2012, after 136 regular performances.

Levy then booked, what was at the time, the biggest role in her career. She originated the role of Fantine in the 2013 revival of Les Misérables on Broadway. NBC 4 New York’s Robert Kahn gave Levy an enthusiastic review saying her interpretation of Fantine “has frailty and a velvety-soft voice.” He added, “I was moved by “I Dreamed a Dream” in ways I haven’t been in years.”

Now, Levy has taken on the heftiest, and now perhaps the biggest, role in her career, originating the role of Elsa in the stage adaptation of Disney’s Frozen.
