About Byron Lee and the Dragonaires

Born Byron Elmo Lee, Lee was a Jamaican musician, record producer, and entrepreneur, best known for his work as leader of Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. He is a pioneer in soca, ska, calypso and mas music, his career spans from Jamaica in the early 1960s to the 2000s in America. Lee died from bladder cancer in 2008. The band still performs under The Dragonaires.
