Nothing is known about Bongo Man Byfield, aside from the fact that he recorded several songs in the early-mid 60s, including “Marcus Garvey” aka “Where Is Garvey?”, “Jack Ruby Bound to Die” aka “Kennedy’s Grave”, and “Bongo Man” (which is sung to the tune of Sam Cooke’s “Wonderful World”. Each song was recorded at the famous Studio One, and all were printed on multiple 7-inch singles, backed by various artists. All of Bongo Man’s songs were also recorded with different versions of The Skatalites as the backing band.
