About Bohren & Der Club Of Gore

Formed in 1992 by longtime friends Thorsten Benning (drums), Robin Rodenberg (bass), Reiner Henseleit (guitar) , and Morten Gass (guitar/piano), the German instrumental quartet describes their work as “doom ridden jazz music.” The members of the band share inspiration from the genres of grindcore, hardcore, death, and doom metal. Originally called simply Bohren (German for “drilling”), they changed their name to reflect their inspiration by the Dutch instrumental band GORE. Their first full-length album Gore Motel was released in 1994 followed by Midnight Radio in 1995. Henseleit left the band in 1996, and composer and saxophone player Christoph Closer joined the group in 1997.
