Blacka Da Don is a rapper and recording artist from Toronto, Ontario. He was born on November 17th, 1990 in Edmonton, Alberta, and relocated at a young age to the Toronto Community Housing neighbourhood known as “Pelham Park Gardens.” Black began freestyling with his friends at school and in the neighbourhood. During one of these sessions, his friend Jarvis recognized Blacka’s talent and began encouraging Blacka to take his music more seriously.
Unfortunately, shortly after this, Jarvis was gunned down in cold blood in a case of mistaken identity, and ultimately pushed Blacka to begin his career as “Blacka Da Don.” Over the next few years, Blacka dropped twelve mixtapes, began doing shows as an opening act with artists such as French Montana, Jadakiss, YG, Ca$h Out, G-Eazy, Tory Lanez, Waka Flocka Flame, Yo Gotti, and much more. Following this, Blacka released his first hit, “Money Walk”, followed up by his first promoted reggae release, “Summer Wine”. Shortly after the release of “Summer Wine”, Blacka’s uncle Payback tragically fell victim to gun violence.
Payback was not only Blacka’s uncle, he was his mentor, friend, and father figure, as Blacka’s biological father was not in the picture. Blacka used the studio as his coping mechanism and began developing this project. Unfortunately, in the time since the project commenced, Blacka has lost another friend, Dubz, as well as his uncle Illy to the streets. Although devastated, Blacka used his pain to push himself and his career further, by not stopping and continuing to carry on his late uncle’s brand, “Music That Matters.”
