About Big Scary

Big Scary is an Australian musical duo formed in 2006 by Tom Iansek and Joanna Syme.

Armed with just acoustic guitars and egg shakers, they started playing songs together in the living room of Syme’s parents' house, gradually working up to a bolder, more expansive sound.

After releasing several singles and EP’s, the duo released their first full-length album, Vacation, on October 7, 2011.

In 2012 the duo went on a self-funded North American tour and played on the stages of South by Southwest, Canadian Music Week, and CMJ Music Marathon, taking their first steps on the world stage.

Their second album, Not Art, was released on June 28, 2013, which earned them the 2014 Australian Music Prize.

The band’s third album, Animal, was released on September 2, 2016.
