Just ask Bill Haley and the Comets, who had a hit with Turner’s song Shake Rattle and Roll, once they cleaned it up so that the establishment considered it acceptable for white teens to hear.

Turner started out making Boogie singles in the 1930s, and had mounting success for the next two decades.
