Marvel Alexander is a Los Angeles based music producer and DJ. He is often used as an example of big record labels taking advantage of smaller producers and artists. He was the coproducer behind A$AP Ferg’s hit song “Shabba” which peaked at #44 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2013.
For the production of the song he was only awarded $500 by RCA Records under the false pretense that the song would be released in a mixtape, which does not generate revenue. In an interview Alexander recalls being homeless and hearing “Shabba” from the windows of passing cars. Despite this massive setback he has gone on to work with Lil Baby, KYLE, Yung Gravy and many other rap superstars.
