Besphrenz (pronounced “best friends”) is a trio of friends (C.J. Smith, Rob Deckhart a.k.a. “Rob Devious,” Tay Jones) based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Besphrenz was originally started by the trio to share their individual projects under a single pseudonym. Later, Smith met American singer-songwriter Matt McAndrew, best known for his appearance in Season 7 of NBC’s reality singing competition show The Voice. Smith was an up-and-coming rapper in the Philly hip-hop music scene under the pseudonym “Yoitscj!” at the time. Together, the duo started making music and decided on the stage name Besphrenz, and released their debut single, “MIA,” in 2016. A year later, they released their 2017 single, “Undertow,” featuring American rapper Asher Roth.

The trio hinted at the release of their debut EP Beach Haven on Twitter on August 6th, 2018, and officially released it on August 10th. Beach Haven showcases the quartet’s eclectic style and incorporation of several genres of music, deriving its influences from mainly hip-hop, rap, indie, and bedroom pop condensed into a project. Soon after, they released their 2018 single, “Tired Eyes” in October, followed by their debut music video for it a month later. Shortly after, they released their single, “Walking On Ice” in December.

Besphrenz started off 2019 with the release of their March single, “dreamgurl,” featuring singer-songwriter Keith Goodwin of Good Old War. “dreamgurl” caught the attention of singer-songwriter Camila Cabello and was later played on BBC’s Radio 6 Music station.
