Starting at a young age, Jock “BAYNK” Nowell-Usticke from New Zealand started learning how to play the piano, saxophone and guitar. Studying chemical engineering, something that he disliked, and playing in a small band made him appreciate music as a passion even more.
While teaching himself how to produce music, he was heavily inspired by Australian producer Flume to find his own, unique style.
This led BAYNK to upload his first original beat “Sundae” to Soundcloud in 2015. Not getting the anticipated response, he nearly gave up on his dream before the track finally gained massive attention. The outcome was an invite to play at the St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival in Auckland, which made him realize that he could make music into his professional career and start touring all around the globe.
In 2016, BAYNK released a remix of the hit song “i hate u, i love u” which is featured as one of eight remixes on gnash’s spotify playlist.
The same year marks the release date of BAYNK’s first EP, which includes previously published, popular titles like “What You Need” and “Poolside.” His second big project, Someone’s EP II, released in 2019, attracting millions of streams across all platforms in no time.
