Jonas Erik Altberg was born December 22, 1984, in Halmstad, Sweden. He is commonly known by the alias Basshunter. His passion for singing was found in 1998 while singing in his mother’s choir.

Basshunter published his music through the Internet for free download on platforms such as chat channels and gaming websites.

In 2006, he grabbed everyone’s attention with his first single “Boten Anna”. It was downloaded over 37,000 times in 24 hours. His popularity drew in many record labels in which he chose Extensive Music and Warner Music Sweden. The single was officially released the same year and hit #1 on the Swedish Singles Chart and was certified platinum in Sweden and Denmark.

After trying to translate “Boten Anna” into English he realized it was impossible. He released “Now You’re Gone” in 2007, with a feature from Bazzheadz. The song charted #1 in the UK and was certified platinum. It also took the spot for being the third most-viewed YouTube video.

Basshunter has been nominated for many awards and has won a handful of times. He won the 2008 World Music Award for ‘World’s Best Selling Swedish Artist and the Eska Music Award for 'Radioactive Hit of the Year’ with “Now You’re Gone”.
