Bartees Leon Cox Jr., known by his stage name Bartees Strange, is an alternative hip-hop artist currently based in Washington, D.C. He began his professional music career as the guitarist and vocalist for the post-hardcore band Stay Inside, before leaving to focus on his solo career.

His first solo EP, Magic Boy, was released in 2017. At this time he was releasing music as Bartees & The Strange Fruit. By 2020, he rebranded to Bartees Strange and has been releasing music under this name ever since.

In 2020, he was named an artist to watch by Stereogum.
