Chris Baio (b. October 29, 1984) is one of the four original founding members and the primary bassist in the indie rock band Vampire Weekend, along with Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, and Chris Tomson.
Baio and the members of Vampire Weekend met white attending school together at Columbia University, and formed the band in their senior year at the university.
Baio’s other musical endeavors include a country-influenced band known as Midnight Hours with current Vampire Weekend drummer Chris Tomson while at Columbia (prior to the formation of Vampire Weekend), becoming a DJ after the breakup of Midnight Hours, and a solo project known as Baio.
Interestingly enough, Baio is a distant cousin of Hollywood actor Steve Buscemi.
