INTRODUCTION

Averagekidluke (AKL) (born Lucas Kihlman on January 2, 2002), is a Finnish-American rapper, singer and songwriter. Born in Helsinki, Finland, AKL started making music around the age of 15 and initially gained mainstream attention following the release of Swedish rapper A36’s
“Samma Gamla Vanliga Remix”. The song reached Finland’s Spotify Top 50 list, which debuted at no. 1 and kept its position for 12 weeks and subsequently went 3x platinum in 2022. He is also known for writing and collaborating with artists such as Internet Money, 24kGoldn, Chelji and Xavier Weeks.

EARLY LIFE

Averagekidluke was born in Helsinki, Finland on January 2, 2002, to a Finnish father and an American mother. He has an older sister and is of Finno-swedish, African American and Caribbean descent. He is fluent in English, Swedish and Finnish. He attended the Swedish upper secondary school Tölö gymnasium in Helsinki from which he graduated in 2021.

CAREER

Early Career:
According to AKL, he became interested in music as a child by listening to artists such as Michael Jackson, Akon, 50 Cent, Amy Winehouse and Kanye West. He started making music for fun at around the age of 15 together with friends. In 2018, he created “Average” the clothing brand that birthed what would become his future stage name Averagekidluke. At around the same time AKL started making more music and gained access to a studio in Helsinki together with producer Wille Mannila and rapper Yadi in order to pursue music more seriously. In September of 2020, Averagekidluke released the song “For no Reason” produced by Kim Mannila on Soundcloud and was signed by Warner Music Finland shortly thereafter.
2020 – present

In February 2021, he dropped his first label single “On God”, shortly followed by “Promised Neverland”, which gained international interest and led to him working regularly with a group of songwriters and producers in Sweden. Together with them AKL wrote songs for the American production collective known as “Internet Money” that released the song “Options” co-written by AKL and performed by US rapper 24kGoldn. Following this AKL gained interest from UK labels and signed a publishing deal with Phil Christie, Elias Christidis & Shani Gonzales with Warner Chappell/Manifest Music. He released his own single “Gone” in May 2022 and featured on the song “Paholainen” by Portuguese-Finnish popstar “Abreu” that debuted at number 7 on the Finnish top 50.

INFLUENCES

AKL has stated that his musical influences include a wide range of artists such as Kanye West, Trippie Redd, Ji the Princeof NY, Akon and Amy Winehouse.
