Augustana is a rare band in that they are best known for their first single off their debut major label album, All the Stars and Boulevards. “Boston”, released in January 2016, featured on One Tree Hill, Scrubs, and The Big Bang Theory.
But despite the early buzz surrounding “Boston,” and positive reception for [“Sweet and Low”], from their second album, lead singer Dan Layus wanted to be known for more than just his piano ballads, and so took a risk on the band’s self-titled third album. He allowed more people into the songwriting process, which he’d previously placed squarely on his own shoulders, and the result was an album of “bigger-sounding songs” that when played live would be considered “towering anthems.”
While Augustana has had six members involved at various times since its founding in 2003, founding member and lead singer/songwriter Layus is the only remaining member of the band; he began releasing music under his own name in 2016.
Augustana has released a new single titled “For Now, Forever” with B-side track “The Heart Of It”. Both sings are exquisitely produced with glistening synthesizers, a departure from their often more raw production and Layus' solo country sound.
