Arata was born as 杉本新 (Shin Sugimoto) in Japan on December 3rd, 1992 and is the vocalist and songwriter of the electronic rock band THE SIXTH LIE and has been with the band since they made their indie debut in 2015.

In 2024, almost 10 years after making his musical debut with his band, he would debut two singles as a solo artist under the name 杉本アラタ (Arata Sugimoto). The first single, titled The greed will build my throne would release on January 10th, and would be the theme song to the RPG smartphone game “三国志アナザー～星将の願い～”, while the second, titled キミイロ (Kimi Iro), released on January 24th as a stand alone single. Both songs were written by Arata. The announcement came a month before his bands' appearance at Japan Expo Thailand for that year; the band previously made appearances at the expo in the past.
