About Anika Hazel

Anika Hazel, born in Toronto, Canada, to Jamaican parents, has been referred to as, full of potential with a bright future, by industry members. Anika is an up and coming singer/songwriter, who has classical training. With a style influenced from a range of genres from reggae and R&B to country, Anika’s ability to appeal to a large spectrum of fans is inevitable, and her style has been described as fresh and refreshing by music industry members.

Anika is currently working diligently at her songwriter craft, writing for several upcoming artists, as well as, for her own demo. She is looking to break into the market, not only as a singer, but as a creative artist, capable of the creation, production and execution of her music. Although, Anika is looking to promote herself as a singer, she is also looking for the opportunity to assist other artists in their mission, by making available her song writing services.

Miss Hazel realized her ability at the young age of 10, when the overly shy 5th grader belted out R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly”, which not only surprised her teacher and classmates, but herself. At the age of 11 Anika dabbled in song writing, and realized that she had a new passion in life, and decided to pursue her new found dream. Anika was highly influenced by music at a very tender age, listening to her parents and family play such artists as Tina Turner, Bob Marley, as well as many other artists from various musical genres. Anika was inspired by artists such as Tina Turner, Michael Jackson, Bob Marley and Whitney Houston, as well as, a colossal amount of soul/R&B and reggae artists, whom lit the flame for Anika’s love for music.

Not only a music lover, Anika has attained an honours B.A. degree in Criminology and Sociology, in her second aspiration of becoming a lawyer, and is looking forward to furthering her education in the near future. She has had the opportunity to open for dancehall/reggae artists D’Angel and Spice, as well as, the opportunity to work with several reggae and hip hop artists. She has also expanded her horizons being featured on successful Japan based releases, such as; “Bring it back”, “Strife”, as well as, other smaller features aimed at the old school hip hop/soul crowd in Japan. She was also featured on Re:plus’ ‘Everlasting Truth’ album released in Japan, called “Time Goes By”, which bounced around Japan’s top 10 hip hop downloads on iTunes for a month, in the first month of the album’s release.
