About Andy Hurley

Andrew John Hurley, (born on May 31, 1980 in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin) is the drummer of the pop punk / emo punk / alternative rock band Fall Out Boy.

He was brought up by his mother, who worked as a nurse. His father passed away when he was five. Andy attended Menomonee Falls High School and played percussion in bands, though his first instrument was the saxophone. After that he attended the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee, double-majoring in anthropology and history.
He didn’t join in Fall Out Boy until 2003 and before he did, he played in several hardcore punk bands, like Arma Angelus. During Fall Out Boy’s hiatus (2009-2012) he and Joe Trohman (lead guitarist of Fall Out Boy) formed the supergroup The Damned Things playing mainly heavy metal music.

Andy was inspired and influenced by his favorite metal bands (Metallica, New Kids on the Block and Slayer).

He has been vegan and straight-edge since he was 16, and he is currently a CrossFit athlete. He was also listed on PETA’s Sexiest Vegan poll in 2006.

He has been a comic books / movies lover since forever (Star Wars / Marvel ecc.) as much as a tattoo lover (he has over 2,600 tattoos all over his body). He is working on his own comic book called “Post Collapse”. He got his first tattoo on his chest as a christmas present for his mother.

Andy will cover his mouth and nose or leave the room if people around him smoke, he heartily opposes harmful / unhealthy lifestyles. He identifies himself as an anarcho-primitivist (he believes that people should live the way they lived prior to 10,000 years ago).

His house has been featured on MTV Cribs.

Currently single.
