Andrew Bird is a violinist, guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and whistler from the Chicago area. He has trained in the Suzuki method of music learning since age four and is influenced by many classical, jazz, blues, and folk styles. He graduated from Northwestern in 1996 with a Bachelor’s degree in violin performance.
Bird has played with the band Squirrel Nut Zippers and Andrew Bird’s Bowl of Fire before starting his solo career with his touring band, the Hands of Glory.
He is a prolific songwriter with 14 studio albums, six live albums, seven EPs, and over 50 appearances on other albums and singles. He has composed music for film, including the Muppets films and the entire score for the movie “Norman”.
Since 2016, Bird has been hosting “Live from the Great Room”, a Facebook Live show of musical performances by himself and a wide variety of guest artists, streaming directly to the internet from the living room of his California home.
