Allstar Weekend was an American pop rock band from Poway, California formed in 2007, when Nathan Darmody (Lead Guitar) and Tom Norris (Keyboards, Rhythm Guitar) met in High School. Shortly after the formation of the duo, Zach Porter (Vocals), a friend of Darmody, joined and the trio formed as “Outerspace Politicians” in June 2007. Later joined Michael Martinez (Drums), a local drummer, and Cameron Quiseng (Bass), whom Porter met in Middle School. Norris then left the group to pursue college.
The band rose to fame when they placed second on Radio Disney’s special, Next Big Thing, under the name, “ALLSTAR”. Shortly after, the band signed with Hollywood Records and released their debut extended play “Suddenly” in June 2010. After signing to Hollywood Records, the band changed their name to “Allstar Weekend” stating the catalyst of the name change as legal issues.
Their sophomore album “All The Way” was released in September 2011. Shortly after the release, the band announced Darmody had left the band via Twitter.
In January 2012, the now trio, announced their departure from Hollywood Records, claiming the label restricted them of what they wanted to do (touring internationally, mature themes in songs, etc.). The trio signed to Universal Music Canada and released “The American Dream”, an extended play in July 2012.
In January 2013, Porter, Quiseng, and Martinez announced that the band would be taking a “permanent hiatus”. Although, they released a prerecorded cover song extended play titled “Kevin’s Place” the next month.
After the announce of the “permanent hiatus”, Porter, Quiseng, Martinez, and touring member Brent Schneiders, announced the formation of a new band called “The Tragic Thrills”. The Tragic Thrills released their debut self titled album in October 2013, which took on more of a indie/folk rock style.
Since then, Martinez and Schneiders left The Tragic Thrills in April 2014, and Quiseng announced an indefinite hiatus in January 2015. The band currently consist of Porter, Chris Morrison (Guitar), Ans Gibson (Drums), and live member Gabe Rudner (Keyboards).
