Descended from coal miners in Pennsylvania, Allan Jones (1908-1992) studied voice at NYU and is best known for showcasing his operatic tenor voice in the 1936 film version of Show Boat and two Marx Brothers' films, A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races. He largely left acting in the 1940s, though he continued to record and perform on radio. His son is the singer Jack Jones.
