Alexandra “Alex” Sholler, better known by her stage name Alison Wonderland, is a Sydney-based electronic music producer, DJ and singer. She has also done production work under the name Whyte Fang.
Alison Wonderland’s debut album, Run, was released on 20 March 2015. She has since gone on to play festivals and gigs around the world to increasingly larger audiences, notably becoming the highest billed female DJ in Coachella history in 2018. Her latest album is 2018’s Awake. It topped the U.S. Dance charts and peaked at #88 on the Billboard 200. It’s second single “Church” became her third charting hit in her home country following “I Want U” and “U Don’t Know”.
Her name is a clever play on words “Alice in Wonderland”, which is a popular kids fantasy movie. She combines the two first words into one, making it Alison, which also happens to be a name.
Apart from her success, Alison has struggled with mental health issues her entire life. As a kid, she was heavily bullied until she decided to switch schools. She struggled to find a stable relationship and never felt good enough. In late 2017, Alison attempted to take her life during severe emotional abuse. Her song, released a year later, “Happy Place,” was dedicated to those who suffer every day. She spoke about it a tweet, saying “The only relationship I can ever keep in my fucking life is music,” she says. “It’s literally the only thing I’m good at.”
Alison was trained classically and learned to play the piano and cello, among other instruments. Later, when she went to an EDM concert, she found her passion for creating music through electronics.
