Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens met while serving in the US army during 1777; both were aides-de-camp to George Washington. They quickly became inseparable to the point that some historians compare their relationship to that of two lovers. Despite their constant distance from one another, their affections never wavered.
People have debated the nature of their relationship for centuries; some have suggested that it may have been sexual in nature. While the answer still remains unknown, it is still clear from their correspondence that, despite the many challenges they faced on and off the battlefield, their commitment to each other was strong, and even if their relationship only existed within the confines of comradery, their loyalty to each other touches many even centuries after their death.
