Alessia De Gasperis lived another life—and she did so quite successfully. Under the name of Kai, the Toronto-born and Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and producer joined forces with Flume as a co-writer and featured vocalist on the multiplatinum GRAMMY® Award-nominated banger “Never Be Like You,” lent her voice to everyone from Skrillex and Diplo to Childish Gambino, generated north of 1 billion streams, and earned acclaim from UPROXX, Populist Magazine, and more.

In 2021, she introduces herself under her given name, Alessia De Gasperis, and lets her voice and spirit shine like never before.
“I had a breakthrough moment,” she admits. “For most of my life, I was afraid of truly identifying with myself. Over the past decade of making music, I experienced all of these lessons. When I started my career, I was still mad insecure and uncomfortable being me. I chose a different name, because it was a blank slate and a shield. Kai was an aspect of me, but not the entirety of me. I’ve been on this journey of embracing who I am and that means embracing my roots and embracing my name."
