One of Latin America’s greatest composers, Alberto Ginastera (1916-1983) was born in Buenos Aires to parents of Catalan and Italian ancestry, and pronounced his last name with a “zh” sound at the beginning instead of the Spanish way (with an “h” sound). Many of his works incorporate Argentinian folk themes, though in later years these were mixed with more modernist elements from Europe and America.
