Alan Rickman (1946-2016) was an English actor who worked his way up through the ranks of British theater before landing his big break playing the villain in the 1988 film Die Hard. Other notable roles include Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Galaxy Quest, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and the Harry Potter films.
