AKIA is a Limerick based producer from Tipperary, whose background in music from growing up in a studio and working for years as a sound engineer allows for a sound that is derived from a knowledge of how music feels through big speakers, and what frequencies work within genres of music. Heavily involved from the start of Prescription and PX Music, he has worked closely with Hazey Haze and Citrus Fresh in both of their debut projects. He has also collaborated with GavinDaVinci, Same D4Ence, Strange Boy, Dan Em, and producer 40Hurtz among others on other projects, in addition to releasing his own projects and tracks. AKIA has also collaborated with other artists and beat makers from around Ireland through recording, editing, mixing and mastering tracks and projects. He has been featured on District Magazine’s list of 10 Irish Producers You Need to Know, and was described by them as “one of the country’s most talented producers”.
The sound of an AKIA production has a quality that feels heavily inspired by who and what’s around him. At the same time, it sounds like nothing else out there- taking inspiration from all genres from metal to jazz, bass music to experimental works, and finding samples from artists he grew up listening to that lend themselves to tracks which may not always sound pretty, but always work to portray the message the artist wants to get across. He has helped to set the musical scene that makes Limerick hip hop what it is today.
“Sometimes it’s best to just listen to the music. A prime example of the electric production that AKIA has routinely produced is illustrated on ‘String Theory‘.” – District Magazine
“Featuring AKIA on production duties, Citrus Fresh continues his left-field rap trajectory with another disconcerting cut. ‘Teeth’ sounds like the MC is going to war with himself – duplicated vocals and unwinding phased samples allow the track to fall out of control before recovering to hit you over the head with blistering bass.” – Nialler9
