Olve Eikemo (born in Odda on June 27, 1973), also known by his stage name Abbath Doom Occulta, is a Norwegian musician who is best known as the guitarist/vocalist for the black metal band Abbath and former guitarist/vocalist and founding member of Immortal.
Abbath formed Immortal together with guitarist Demonaz in 1991. The band’s lineup wasn’t really stable, so the band members had to change their instruments from album to album. Olve managed to be a vocalist, bassist, guitarist and even a drummer in different periods of Immortal.
Being a big Motörhead fan, Abbath formed a tribute band called Bömbers in 1996, in which he plays the role of Lemmy. Bömbers is still active to this day.
Immortal split in 2003 due to personal reasons of the band members. During the breakup Abbath, along with Immortal’s Armagedda, Gorgoroth’s King ov Hell and Enslaved’s Ice Dale, founded the black metal supergroup I in 2006. I released only one album and introduced a lot of black ‘n’ roll in its music. Nonetheless, in 2007 the band ceased its activity.
Immortal reunited in 2007 and released their last album with Abbath on guitars/vocals, All Shall Fall, in 2009. Olve left the band in 2015 due to the conflict between the band members which led to legal bands over the rights to the Immortal trademark.
In 2015 Olve formed the black metal band Abbath that developed I’s black ‘n’ roll sound even further. In 2019 the frontman, concerned about his health, entered an alcohol addiction rehab due to his disastrous addiction-induced behavior. In 2020 the artist stated that he was going to stay sober.
In 2020 Olve also expressed interest in Immortal reunion saying that there’s no antagonism between the musicians and that Immortal’s longtime drummer Horgh congratulated him on sobriety. However, the reunion is complicated by the new legal battle between Demonaz and Horgh, the results of which are still unknown.
