A Friend in London was a Danish indie pop and rock band that disbanded in 2014. They are best known for their single, “New Tomorrow”, which won them fifth place in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
A Friend in London was formed in 2005 and the band’s first single, “Thoughts of a Boheme” came after lead singer Páll “Tim” Schou won the contest Danish Young Talent 2005. Their next big break came in 2008, in the Bodog Million Dollar Battle of the Bands where they won the European leg of the competition.
A Friend in London entered the 2011 Dansk Melodi Grand Prix competition (the Danish leg of the Eurovision Song Contest) with their song “New Tomorrow”, winning the Danish preselection show. They were selected to represent Denmark in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest, but didn’t make it through the semi-finals.
In 2013, A Friend in London released their final album, Unite. The same year, the original constellation with Schou as lead singer, Esben Svane on drums, Aske Damm Bramming on bass and Sebastian Vinther on guitar crackled in 2013 with the last three leaving, while Schou continued for another year with new members. Not soon after, in 2014 Schou announced that A Friend in London was disbanding completely.
