Perhaps Australia’s most controversial rap group, A.B. Original comprises of Indigenous rappers Briggs and Trials. The group formed backstage at Triple J’s 40th anniversary concert Beat The Drum in January 2015.
In November 2016, the group released its debut album Reclaim Australia, which heavily roots on the racial struggles Indigenous people face and features its controversial fifth single “January 26”, which tackles the issue of people celebrating the particular day known as Australia Day for the wrong reasons.
Coincidentally, Fremantle, a city in Western Australia, shifted their celebration of Australia Day in Reclaim Australia’s release week.
