Most know 8ky [8kyler 6ordy pronounced Skyler Gordy; the 8 and 6 representing the 86 in his birth year of 1986) as Sky Blu from the iconic Grammy nominated electro-pop dance duo LMFAO, but he’s also a DJ, singer-songwriter, producer, and dancer. At first glance, 8ky seems like a walking party, delivering non-stop club action to the masses, but look further beneath that party exterior and you will find an artist who has lived an extremely unordinary life even before the start of LMFAO. He moved around Los Angeles his whole life attending twelve different schools, and ultimately ended up dropping out during his senior year of high school. He grew up fighting a lot (although he would only fight bullies) and people started to know him as the funny guy with a short fuse.
8ky is very close with his family and has his mother to thank for his creativity, and his father for his spirituality as he first introduced 8ky to meditation when he was eight years old. 8ky has been extremely lyrically conscious throughout his career, and now that creation is coming in the form of his first major [since LMFAO] 30-song hip-hop album release entitled Fxck Yeah: Chaos To Consciousness. This album was a personal mission to raise the bar for himself as an artist, a rapper, producer, a writer, and most importantly as a spiritual being.
Fxck Yeah: Chaos To Consciousness is both extremely personal and spiritual for 8ky; it’s a revolution! His adult life wasn’t as easy as some may seem to believe, and he’s finally coming out of one of the darkest times in his life. When asked about a spiritual connection to the album, he replies, “I absolutely have a spiritual connection to this album. It’s the beginning of a movement. Fxck Yeah is when you hit that ultimate feeling of pure, honest joy! When you just can’t help yourself, the only thing left to do is say ‘Fxck Yeah!’ It’s that feeling you want to achieve in every aspect of your life. I wanna do something for the people, I wanna help and it’s in my heart to help.”
The “Party Rock” lifestyle was an LMFAO-created movement lead by Redfoo, and although 8ky isn’t leaving LMFAO [Sky Blu] behind, he’s now in a place of special purpose. Taking what he learned through his own personal experiences with gangs and biker clubs in the past, his Fxck Yeah Family is his own powerful positive gang. He believes that healing can be found in embracing life lessons, and hopes that every fan that comes to a 8ky/Fxck Yeah show can spiritually connect with the music in a deeper way.
Over the past few years, he’s taken on a healthier lifestyle with a focus on nutrition, meditation and fitness. While he may be becoming healthier, he’s still the life of the party! Thomas Merton wrote, “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” 8ky explains, “I love to party, I love to smoke weed and drink, but we must find balance and give more meaning to what we do and say. I believe the celebration is spiritual and we must take our art to the next level. Every aspect of what I’m trying to do is all 8ky and the Fxck Yeah movement. From the live shows to social media and from creative projects whether they be for television or through my music… all will be delivered with the ‘Fxck Yeah’ message of fully embracing the moment.”
