Following the dissolution of Kirk’s original ensemble The Family and legal turbulence with the group God’s Property, 1NC was a new multi-racial gospel group assembled by Kirk Franklin.
The group consisted of over 10 members: Kirk Franklin, Markita Knight, Jana Bell, Candy West, Ashley Guilbert, Sheila Ingram, Brandon Kizer, Nate Larson, Frank Lawson, Shantael Johnson, Nate Young, Myron Butler, Farrell Mannings and Shanika Leeks.
Building on the success of God’s Property’s “Stomp,” 1NC’s eponymous debut album was released in 2000 featuring another set of well-produced songs that smartly occupy just enough space in both R&B and gospel genres to keep a wide appeal.
The group’s lead single “Nobody” wrapped God’s praises in a club-ready track that could have just as easily been a hit for Destiny’s Child or 112.
Despite being well received, 1NC only recorded one album for B-Rite Music. Although it has spawned other talent. Candy West continued to be an in-demand session singer appearing on countless other production by Kirk Franklin. Another former 1NC member Myron Butler went on to start his own group.
The most popular song by 1NC's is Be Like Him
1NC's first song Be Like Him released on Tue Aug 15 2000.
